The Wichita Health Authority requires all food handlers to obtain knowledge about food safety and sanitation within thirty (30) days of employment. The TAP Series training program does just that. In just about 1 hour the food handler is trained and will receive a downloadable certificate and handler card.

Q:I have a food handler card issued from another state. Are food handler cards from other states compliant with the City of Wichita's Food Handler Card?
A:No. Other state's food handler cards are not valid in Wichita.

Q:I am a restaurant manager and have a valid Manager's Food Safety Certification pursuant to existing state law. Do I need a City of Wichita Food Handler Card?
A:No. Anyone who holds a valid Manager's Food Safety Certification doesn't need a food handler card.

A:No. Employers are not required to pay for the food handler's training and test. The food handler card is the property of the restaurant employee.
