Course Overview

The Food Handler Training does not qualify in the counties of Riverside and San Bernardino. Those counties have their own local food handler programs.

TAP Series provides this ANAB-accredited online Food Handler Training course which is approved for use in the State of California. It is easy to earn your food handler card.

What you need to do to earn your Food Handler Card:

  • Complete the lessons
  • Pass the exam with a score of 70% or greater
  • Print your food handler card

The term is 3 years, as stated in the law.

This course uses state-of-the-art programming and can be used on all computers, tablets and smartphones, without the need for any other downloads. Do not buy the Food Handler Training if you hold a valid Food Protection Manager Certification pursuant to current food safety law. Upon successful completion of your course and test, you will print your Food Handler Card.

  • There is no limit to how many times an employee may take the training.
  • Training is not transferable between individuals or employers.
  • Proof that a food handler has been trained must be available upon reasonable request by a State or local health department inspector and may be in an electronic format.

The Food Handler Training covers and assesses:

  • The relationship between time and temperature with respect to foodborne illness, including the relationship between time and temperature and micro-organisms during the various food handling preparation and serving states, and the type, calibration, and use of thermometers in monitoring food temperatures.
  • The relationship between personal hygiene and food safety, including the association of hand contact, personal habits and behaviors, and the food handler's health to foodborne illness, and the recognition of how policies, procedures, and management contribute to improved food safety practices.
  • Methods of preventing food contamination in all stages of food handling, including terms associated with contamination and potential hazards prior to, during, and after delivery.
  • Procedures for cleaning and sanitizing equipment and utensils.
  • Problems and potential solutions associated with temperature control, preventing cross-contamination, housekeeping, and maintenance.

TAP Series online Food Handler Training is approved for use in most of the State of California. The course and examination take approximately 2 hours to complete and, on successful completion of the course, provides the trainee with a downloadable certificate and handler card. The certificate is provided for the establishment and the card is for the employee. This course is not to prepare workers to take an ANSI Food Safety Manager Certification exam.

Our food handler training course is California Health Department Approved and ANAB accredited.

Attention Employers! New California Law SB 476, Effective January 1st, 2024 requires you to cover the cost of Food Handler Training for all employees.

New CA Food Handler Law (SB 476) effective January 1, 2024, mandates employers to cover the cost of mandatory Food Handler Card training for all restaurant employees. This includes course expenses and compensated time for completion at the regular hourly rate. SB 476 also requires employers to free employees from duties during training, to be completed within 30 days of hire. The law prohibits employers from making the food handler card a pre-employment requirement.

Q: What are the California Food Handler Training requirements?

  • Course: Master each lesson with a remarkable 70 percent or better,
  • Examination: Conquer the 20-question exam, securing a passing score of 70 percent or higher.

Q: When does my course expire?

Courses remain active for 180 days from the date of your enrollment. If you do not earn your Course Certificate of Achievement within 180 days of enrolling, your course access will expire. In such a case, you will need to repurchase the course to re-enroll. Two reminder emails will be sent, the first 25 days after enrollment and the second 30 days before the course's expiration date, if you have not completed the course. Q: What is the procedure for requesting a refund for my course?

100% money back of the purchase price, or credit to your account, if returned within 30 days of enrollment, and if no more than lesson 1 has been studied for courses with more than one lesson.

Exceptions:

  1. The Municipality Of Anchorage Food Handler course is NOT refundable.
  2. All courses with only one lesson if the lesson is completed are final sale and NOT refundable.
  3. Once you have earned a course certificate you are not eligible for a refund even if it is within the 30 days.
