To comply with Illinois law, you must complete a proctored exam after finishing the TAP Series Food Safety Certification Training course. You have three options for proctoring:
ATTENTION CITY OF CHICAGO WORKERS: After taking this course and passing your certification exam, you need to get a Chicago Food Manager Certificate. You can submit by Mail and include all documents and the money order payable to Kennedy King College for $52.00 per person or Email your documents.
If you are already working with a registered instructor, they will give you the examination and handle the city paperwork.
A Certified Food Service Sanitation Manager is required to be on duty at all times when Time/Temperature Control for Safety Foods (TCS foods) is prepared or served. This person is responsible for overseeing the food handling and preparation process to prevent the occurrence of food-borne illness.

All other areas in Illinois can take an examination from any proctor, including those at a test center. Also, you no longer have to file with the State Department of Health. Once you have received your examination certification, post it in a visible place at your establishment.

All packages lead to a national certification valid for 5 years.
All certifications are valid for 5 years. To recertify, retake the exam before it expires.
