Illinois Food Safety Manager Courses

Please read this important notice regarding this course.

To comply with Illinois law, you must complete a proctored exam after finishing the TAP Series Food Safety Certification Training course. You have three options for proctoring:

  1. Purchase the Food Safety Manager Exam Voucher (Live Proctor Exam Only - not remote) for $28.00. An individual from your company or school can become a proctor at no cost and without needing food safety knowledge. Click here for more details.
  2. Local Test Center - $80.00. This is the National Registry Exam, owned by Servsafe. Click here for a list of test centers. At the test center, you'll take the ANSI-accredited Food Safety Manager Examination. If you choose this option, you'll need to pay the exam company directly. Be sure to complete the entire training course to maximize your chances of passing the exam on your first try.
  3. Pre-Scheduled Exam - If you arranged an exam when you purchased the TAP Food Safety Manager Certification Training, your proctor will provide all necessary instructions.

ATTENTION CITY OF CHICAGO WORKERS: After taking this course and passing your certification exam, you need to get a Chicago Food Manager Certificate. You can submit by Mail and include all documents and the money order payable to Kennedy King College for $52.00 per person or Email your documents.

If you are already working with a registered instructor, they will give you the examination and handle the city paperwork.

A Certified Food Service Sanitation Manager is required to be on duty at all times when Time/Temperature Control for Safety Foods (TCS foods) is prepared or served. This person is responsible for overseeing the food handling and preparation process to prevent the occurrence of food-borne illness.

All other areas in Illinois can take an examination from any proctor, including those at a test center. Also, you no longer have to file with the State Department of Health. Once you have received your examination certification, post it in a visible place at your establishment.
