To comply with Illinois law, you must complete a proctored exam after finishing the TAP Series Food Safety Certification Training course. You have three options for proctoring:

1. Purchase the Food Safety Manager Exam Voucher (Live Proctor Exam Only - not remote) for $28.00. An individual from your company or school can become a proctor at no cost and without needing food safety knowledge. Click here for more details.
2. Local Test Center - $80.00. This is the National Registry Exam, owned by Servsafe. Click here for a list of test centers. At the test center, you'll take the ANSI-accredited Food Safety Manager Examination. If you choose this option, you'll need to pay the exam company directly. Be sure to complete the entire training course to maximize your chances of passing the exam on your first try.
3. Pre-Scheduled Exam - If you arranged an exam when you purchased the TAP Food Safety Manager Certification Training, your proctor will provide all necessary instructions.

ATTENTION CITY OF CHICAGO WORKERS: After taking this course and passing your certification exam, you must apply for a City of Chicago Food Service Sanitation Manager Certificate.

You may apply by mail or email. For mailed applications, include all required documents and the $52 money order payable to Kennedy-King College. For emailed applications, submit the required documents first. After your application is approved, Kennedy-King College will email you a link to pay the $52 fee by credit or debit card.

If you completed the course with an approved City of Chicago instructor, your instructor may assist you with the required training documentation and application process.

A Certified Food Service Sanitation Manager is required to be on duty at all times when Time/Temperature Control for Safety Foods (TCS foods) is prepared or served. This person is responsible for overseeing the food handling and preparation process to prevent the occurrence of food-borne illness.

All other areas in Illinois: Complete the required training and pass an ANSI-accredited Certified Food Protection Manager examination. Illinois no longer requires you to separately apply to the Illinois Department of Public Health for a state FSSMC certificate. Once you have received your examination certification, post it in a visible place at your establishment.
