An in-person Proctor is Required when taking the Food Safety Manager Exam. You cannot proctor your exam. Someone in your Company/School will need to Proctor Your exam. You must pass the Food Protection Manager Certification Exam to receive a certificate.

Congratulations on completing the TAP Food Safety Manager Course! Here's a list of things to remember in order to make your Food Safety Manager Proctored Exam experience as smooth as possible.

  • Bring your identification to the examination. Acceptable identifications are unexpired government issued photo & signature bearing identification in the test taker's name (driver's license, state photo ID, military identification, student ID or valid passport).
  • Review your study material within 48 hours of taking the online exam.
  • Take the exam in the same language as your course.

About This Course

The Food Safety Manager must take a proctored exam.


TAP is very excited to inform our consumers on how to become a Certified Food Safety Manager. To begin, you'll enroll in the Food Safety Manager course, which will prepare you for the proctored exam. Once you've completed the course, you'll take the proctored exam online, requiring a person to oversee it. To facilitate this, you can obtain an exam voucher for $28.00. This voucher covers the exam fee. For proctoring, someone from your company or operation can serve as a proctor at no additional cost and supervise your exam. You'll have two opportunities, if needed, to pass the exam using this method. Anyone can become a proctor, including coworkers, managers, or friends. Please note that relatives, family members, or spouses are not eligible to proctor the exam using this method. Please be aware that TAP Series cannot guarantee that your employer offers in-house proctoring. To confirm whether your employer provides this service, we recommend discussing it with your supervisor before completing your purchase. If you plan to use your employer's in-house proctoring service, make arrangements with your supervisor to schedule your exam. Please remember you will have two attempts to pass the exam, if you don't pass the applicate will have to wait 90 days to retake the exam.

Q: How can I renew my certification?

The renewal process differs by state. Check with your local health department.

Q: How long will it take to get certified?

Total training time: 8 hours. Either finish the entire course or only focus on the material you need to review. As necessary, stop and start. Practice the exam to be ready for the Food Protection Manager Certification Exam. Limit of two hours for the exam. The exam is frequently finished in 60 minutes or less by test takers.

Q: What is the minimun passsing score to be certified?

The minimum passing score is 70 percent.
