Platte County, Missouri Food Handlers Certification Training

Six local public health agencies serving the Missouri portion of the Kansas City Metropolitan area are working together to increase the effectiveness of food handler education. This course is approved in Platte County and uses state-of-the-art technology to provide the course on computers, tablets and smartphones, without the need for any other downloads.

Food establishments are required to have one Certified Food Handler for every five persons on duty at all times that potentially hazardous food is being prepared or served.

Do not buy the Food Handler Training if you hold a valid Food Protection Manager Certification pursuant to current food safety law.

Following the completion of your TAP Series training course you must take a proctored exam which is provided by the Platte County Health Department to receive your Food Handler Certificate required for work. The Platte County Health Department proctored exam must be taken within 30 days of completing this course or the course and the proctored exam will need to be retaken.

Platte County Health Department Proctored Exams Options:

  • Option 1: To take the in-person proctored exam, visit the Platte County Health Department location at 7925 NW 110th St., Kansas City, Mo 64153. The exam is available Monday-Friday from 8 A.M. - 3:45 P.M. Make sure to bring your TAP Proof of Training document and a current photo ID. The name on your current photo ID must match the name on the proof of completion.
  • Option 2: Take the online proctored exam by calling 816-858-2412 ext. 181 to schedule an exam time. You will need access to a webcam, a valid ID, and Zoom.

Bring your TAP Proof of Training document you printed after completing the course and a current photo ID to the Platte County Health Department.

You will also need to pass the Platte County proctored exam with a score of 70% or greater to receive your Platte County food handler permit. You are encouraged to bring notes from your TAP Series online course to help you during the exam.

*Please ensure that you purchase the correct course for the city/county where you will be working. If you purchase the incorrect course, you may be required to pay a $10.00 transfer fee to your local health department.

Upon successful completion of your course and the Platte County Health Department exam, you will receive your Food Handler Permit.
