- Stores with a wine tasting program are mandated to have alcohol servers trained and certified through the RBS program.
- Certification is valid for a period of 3 years and must be renewed before the expiration of the previous certification.
Who Needs Certification?
- According to the State of California, anyone involved in checking customer identification, taking alcoholic beverage orders, pouring drinks, or delivering beverages must be certified.
Resources Needed:
- Gather your driver’s license, computer, and the store’s P-card for server RBS registration.
- Training, which takes 2-3 hours, includes a 50-question multiple-choice exam.
Registration and Training Steps:
- A. ABC Website Registration:
- Register with ABC and receive your unique ID number.
- B. TAP Training Registration:
- Enroll in RBS Training on TAP.
Training Steps:
- A. Start RBS Training:
- Self-guided course with pre-test, 6 lessons, and a final exam.
- No skipping ahead; lessons must be completed in order.
- Pause and resume training at your convenience.
- B. Review Completed Lessons:
- Previously completed lessons can be revisited at any time.
- Six months provided to complete the training material.
Exam and Certification Steps:
- A. Complete Exam with ABC:
- 50 multiple-choice questions, up to 2 hours to complete.
- Three attempts within 30 days allowed; passing score is 70%.
- Review answers before completing the exam.
- B. Receive Certified Status:
- Status changes from "Not Certified" to "Certified" on your dashboard.
- Certification is valid for 3 years; renewal required before expiration.
