How Techinical Support Scams Work?

A technical support scam is when scammers call, message, email, or use pop-ups to convince you there's an issue with your device that can be fixed for a fee.

  • Reputable companies have a support ticket system to allow you to access frequently asked questions. or place a support ticket. Reputable companies do not call you.
  • Do not send the poser a check
  • Do not transfer any money to the poser
  • if you have transferred money to the poser inform your bank
  • These scammers pose as an employee from legitimate companies such as Microsoft, Apple, or Amazon.
  • They will scare you into believing there is a problem with your device.
  • Do not click on the link or download the attachment. If you have, unplug your Internet to stop the data transfer. Next, immediately run a virus program.
  • Remember their Goal is to gain access to your information and money.
