Idaho Mandatory Reporter Training

The purpose of this online course is to help all Idaho Mandated Reporters understand their critical role in protecting children by recognizing and reporting child abuse.

Everyone who suspects child abuse or neglect should call the Idaho Child and Family Services Department Hotline to make a report, but Mandated Reporters are required by law to do so, with penalties for failure to do so ranging from fines and/or potential jail time. 

In the state of Idaho, professionals are required by law to report Idaho Statute Ann. Stat. § 16-1605 which states that any person, agency, organization, or entity that knows or in good faith suspects child abuse or neglect shall make a report. For purposes of this section, ‘person’ shall include, but not be limited to: Physicians, residents on hospital staffs, interns, nurses, or coroners, teachers or daycare personnel, social workers or law enforcement personnel and ‘other persons’ with reason to believe that a child has been abused, abandoned, or neglected. 

Idaho Statute Ann. Stat. § 16-1605 states when the attendance of a physician, resident, intern, nurse, daycare worker, or social worker is pursuant to the performance of services as a member of the staff of a hospital or similar institution, he or she shall notify the person in charge of the institution, or his or her designated delegate, who shall make the necessary reports
