Tech Thursday- 5G and Beyond

In 2019 we’re just beginning to see 5G become available. While the future is bright, the reach of 5G networks is still limited to certain areas. The upper-speed limit of 2 Gbps is remarkable, but most people rightly have a difficult time imagining what new things can be done with such high speed. Even if operating that fast can extend the range of capability, there remains an open question as to how much this really benefits the average consumer. Moore’s law states that the capacity of computer chips doubles every two years, and the same is true of these networks, but what does that mean for a nineteen-year old live streaming her skin care routine? It already gets to all of her followers virtually instantaneously via lightning fast internet, and those followers can already see every pore on her face via high definition. If one of her followers is in Portugal and wants to call in, WeChat internet phone service already operates at a high enough level to make that pretty easy too. Is 5G going to provide so much more that spending another $1,500 on a 5G IPhone is going to be worth the expense?
That’s a question still to be answered so everyone should let some time go by before jumping in. Every father out there is now thanking me.
